The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has strongly criticized the lackadaisical approach of the Kozhikode and Wayanad district administrations in facilitating the smooth movement of citizens. The panel also referenced its prior directive regarding this matter.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, K. Baijunath, the acting chairperson of the rights panel and the sole judicial member of the body, issued an order to the relevant officials, urging them to expedite solutions to the traffic congestion issues plaguing the Ghat Road section of NH 766, which connects Kozhikode and Wayanad.
Responding to news reports of lengthy vehicle queues, the SHRC has also requested reports from the police detailing the actions taken to address these concerns. Back in January, the panel had instructed officials to implement restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles through the ghat road during peak holiday hours. Additionally, the Commission has directed the district collectors and district police chiefs of both districts to provide an update within one month on the measures they’ve taken based on the reports submitted in January.
