Israel urges India to declare Hamas as a Terrorist organization

Israel’s Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, has called on India to officially designate Hamas as a terrorist organization. Gilon mentioned that they have conveyed this request to the Indian government and described the communication as part of a friendly dialogue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the early global leaders to condemn the October 7 attack on Israel. While India criticized Hamas for the terrorist act, it subsequently clarified that, in its view, the two-state solution remains the only viable path to bring peace to the region.

In the ongoing conflict, which has extended into its 19th day, Israel is preparing for a protracted battle against Hamas. Israel has been consistently targeting potential Hamas sites in Gaza, although the ground offensive has been delayed due to tactical and strategic considerations. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson, Lt Col Peter Lerner, expressed the objective of destroying Hamas entirely, citing concerns that Hamas might attempt infiltration into safe areas in Israel. Israel has mobilized 300,000 reservists for the ongoing conflict, with the IDF’s main priority being to locate and secure the release of the 222 hostages held captive by Hamas. To date, four hostages have been released.
