Satheesan Declares an End to Wayanad Congress Discord on Final Day of Indiscipline

Leader of the Opposition, VD Satheesan, strongly criticized the Wayanad District Congress Committee for the ongoing internal conflicts that have become public. Speaking at a Congress convention in Kalpetta, Satheesan declared, “Today is the last day of indiscipline and conflicts among the leaders of the party in the district. This is the end of it all.” He received resounding applause from party workers and continued, “If somebody feels that I am threatening, it is true, I mean it. I am telling this with the permission of the party president,” while glancing at KPCC president K Sudhakaran, who was in attendance.

Satheesan was addressing the ongoing infighting between two factions led by former DCC president IC Balakrishnan MLA and the incumbent, ND Appachan, both of which have been trading allegations. A leaked mobile phone conversation between leaders, in which Balakrishnan hurled insults at veteran leader Appachan for not attending an event organized by him, further exacerbated the situation, tarnishing the image of the Congress leadership in the district. Complaints were sent to the state Congress leadership from both camps, urging action.

Additionally, a prominent Congress leader, KK Abraham, a former KPCC general secretary, faced accusations in a multi-crore loan scam at Pulppalli Primary Cooperative Bank. Abraham, a former president of the cooperative bank, was recently arrested after a farmer committed suicide, having his land pledged without his knowledge to secure a significant loan, allegedly facilitated by the bank’s office bearers with the complicity of the staff.

Furthermore, in a show of defiance against the leadership, a group of leaders contested against the official panel in an election for the Urban Cooperative Bank in Sulthan Bathery, emerging victorious. This development left the district leadership in an awkward position among party workers. KPCC has continued to organize district-level conventions throughout the state, attempting to address the widespread discontent within the party.
