During the inauguration of the construction of the hill highway segment from Thalayadu to Malappuram at the Kattipara panchayat office premises, Public Works and Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas emphasized the highway’s role in advancing tourist destinations. Minister Riyas expressed that the highway’s development would not only benefit tourism but also contribute to the social and economic progress of the region.
As of now, the state has completed 683 kilometers of the hill highway, which constitutes half of the total project. Additionally, work on another 293 kilometers of the hill highway is currently in progress. Minister Riyas assured that the government is committed to completing the entire hill highway project by 2026. He further outlined plans to finish the Thalayadu to Malappuram segment by mid-2025 at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.
Among the nine planned reaches, construction has commenced on three segments, with the reach in Kodenchery Kakadampoyil approaching its final stages. The hill highway’s route traverses the panchayats of Panangad, Kattipara, and Puthupadi in the district, showcasing its impact on various local areas.
