Kamal Haasan Embraces Pinarayi’s Guidance Pre-Politics: Keraleeyam Inauguration

Tamil actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan expressed his deep affection for Kerala, highlighting its influence on his political journey. He praised the Kerala Model of Development and its emphasis on decentralization, calling it an inspiration.

Speaking at the inaugural event of Keralayeem, which celebrates Kerala’s 67th formation day, Kamal Haasan said, “Kerala is a special place for me as the people here have embraced me as an artiste and also as a people’s representative. It has helped me learn a lot of lessons.”

Recalling his early experiences in the state, he mentioned, “At the age of seven, I made my film debut, and since then, Kerala has always given me a lot, and I have tried to emulate everything that I learned from here.” He shared his memories of acting in the Malayalam film ‘Madanolsavam’ at the age of 21.

Kamal Haasan also revealed the pivotal role Kerala played in his decision to enter politics. He sought advice from Chief Minister Vijayan, recognizing Kerala’s leadership in decentralization, which started in 1996 through the People’s Plan. “I always looked up to it while dealing with the local bodies in Tamil Nadu,” he added.

He emphasized the strong connection between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, from culture to cuisine, calling Kerala a role model for other states. Kamal Haasan urged Chief Minister Vijayan to continue leading the state forward, transforming it into a knowledge economy.

Keralayeem, a week-long celebration, features over 4,000 artists and 25 international seminars with experts from India and abroad. It also includes ten exhibitions showcasing Kerala’s achievements through modern technology.
