The Kannur District Panchayat’s recent two-day ‘NRI summit’ has proven to be a remarkable success, drawing substantial investments amounting to Rs 2,128 crore. The summit, which concluded on Tuesday, witnessed a flurry of proposals spanning diverse sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, education, tourism, industries, and incubation-business centers.
Among the noteworthy investments, the Aroma group of companies has pledged Rs 200 crore for the construction of a luxurious five-star hotel in Echur, while the Koothuparamb co-operative hospital intends to establish a multi-speciality center, also valued at Rs 200 crore.
Furthermore, the summit received proposals totaling Rs 724 crore in the fields of tourism, education, and hospitality, courtesy of NRI businesspersons and groups. Sreerosh Builders presented their proposal for a five-star hotel in Kannur, and Anamika architects expressed their interest in creating a hill destination wedding center with an estimated worth of Rs 80 crore at Muttannur in the district. Additionally, the Pravasi Global Industrial Park India Ltd expressed intentions to establish a Pravasi township spanning 100 acres within Kannur.
District Panchayat President PP Divya lauded the success of the summit, emphasizing its significant impact on Kannur’s development. She noted, “We will open an investors’ help desk for those who failed to attend the summit,” and mentioned that private landowners have shown willingness to contribute a total of 340 acres for various tourism projects.
This pioneering event, hosted at the E K Nayanar Academy, marked the first of its kind in the state, attracting approximately 200 NRI businesspersons and major investors from across the country. The District Panchayat’s diligent research into the district’s investment potential laid the foundation for this successful summit.
