Arvind Kejriwal Misses ED Summons, Plans MP Visit for Election Campaign

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was scheduled to make an appearance before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case related to an alleged excise policy scandal, has reportedly opted to skip the summons, as per sources within his political party. Instead, he is set to head to Madhya Pradesh, a state currently in the midst of elections, to engage in campaign activities. This summons comes six months after he endured nearly nine hours of questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the same excise policy case.

Kejriwal, in response to the ED’s notice, has protested the summons, asserting that it is both “illegal and politically motivated.” He alleges that the objective of the notice is to hinder his campaigning efforts in states undergoing elections. Kejriwal has further pointed fingers at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting that the notice was issued at their behest.

This case is not without its ramifications, as the former deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, was arrested by the CBI in February of this year in relation to the same matter. Subsequently, the ED apprehended Sisodia in a money laundering case stemming from the CBI’s initial FIR on March 9, while he was incarcerated in Tihar jail. His recent bail plea was turned down by the Supreme Court earlier this week.
