The State Human Rights Commission has initiated an investigation, as ordered by the assistant commissioner of police in Kozhikode, in response to a complaint lodged by the parents of an 11-year-old girl. The young girl was allegedly subjected to physical abuse and confinement due to her perceived errors in dance moves during her practice sessions for a CBSE arts festival.
The parents of the girl directed their complaint towards Samarpana Fine Arts, a dance school located in Eranjikkal. They detailed the unfortunate incident in their complaint, stating that their daughter was struck with a stick and locked in a room for an agonizing two-hour period. The Human Rights Commission has now called upon the police to furnish a report on the matter within a 15-day timeframe.
This distressing incident occurred on October 27 during the final rehearsal for a district-level Sahodaya Festival organized by CBSE schools. The parents specifically expressed their grievances concerning the conduct of the dance teacher.
The young girl’s release from the room only occurred when her mother arrived to collect her. The parents further claimed that the verbal insults and physical abuse inflicted significant mental and physical harm on their daughter. The child was promptly examined by a medical professional and remained under observation throughout the night, as stated in her mother’s complaint.
The concerned parents formally filed their complaint at the Elathur Police Station the following day and simultaneously petitioned the Human Rights Commission during a session held in Kozhikode on October 31. In response, the Acting Chairman and judicial member of the Commission, K. Baiju Nath, has ordered a thorough investigation. The Human Rights Commission is set to revisit this case during its next scheduled session in Kozhikode on November 28.
