The government has taken action to acquire 6.25 acres of what it considers “excess land” owned by LDF’s Nilambur MLA, P V Anvar, and his family. This move came after the influential leader failed to comply with the order from the Thamarassery Taluk Land Board, issued on September 26, which required him to surrender these plots by October 3. To carry out this process, a team of revenue officials, led by Thamarassery Taluk Land Records Tahsildar K Harish, has initiated a preliminary survey of 90.3 cents of land located in Kakadampoyil within Koodaranji village in Kozhikode’s Thamarassery taluk. They have also notified the neighboring residents about their intentions, and the plot is expected to be demarcated and taken over.
In the initial order dated September 26, the Taluk Land Board chairman, T R Rajeesh, specified 10 plots across three taluks in three districts that were required to be surrendered to the respective tahsildars within seven days. These plots include the 90.30 cents in Koodaranji village of Thamarassery taluk, 19 cents and 42.27 cents at Kuzhalmannam village in Palakkad’s Alathur taluk, as well as six plots in Trikkalangode village and a 10.25-cent plot in Perakamanna village in Malappuram’s Ernad taluk. At the moment, officials have only begun the survey of one plot, specifically the one in Koodaranji.
The Land Board chairman had given Anvar the option to choose which plots to surrender, but the MLA did not respond to this offer, leading officials to identify and initiate the process for acquiring a total of 6.25 acres of land.
