Principal of Wayanad Government Medical College suspended for neglecting duties

Dr. V Anilkumar, the Principal of Wayanad Government Medical College Hospital, has been suspended by the Health Department due to multiple instances of neglecting his duties. The suspension was ordered by APM Muhammed Haneesh, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, following a preliminary investigation into allegations made against Dr. Anilkumar from various sources. The decision to take departmental action was a consequence of his repeated failure to carry out his responsibilities with the necessary diligence.

The suspension order highlighted various shortcomings on Dr. Anilkumar’s part, including his failure to address complaints received through the Chief Minister’s Office complaints portal regarding the Medical College’s operations. The inquiry revealed significant lapses in how he fulfilled his duties, such as delays in assigning staff to address institutional issues, slow progress in filling staff vacancies, frequent absences from District Development Council meetings, and inadequate handling of official emails. Additionally, there were issues concerning the timely allocation of funds by the state government for the disposal of biomedical waste from the hospital, which were not promptly provided to the hospital superintendent, resulting in public concern. Furthermore, Dr. Anilkumar was noted to have locked up essential files related to the inspection by the National Medical Commission.
