Crispy Duck roast recipe

Here’s a recipe for Crispy Duck Roast:

Ingredients:
– 1 whole duck (about 4-5 pounds)
– 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 2 tablespoons soy sauce
– 1 tablespoon honey
– 1 tablespoon sherry or rice wine
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1-inch piece of ginger, minced
– 2-3 star anise pods
– 2-3 slices of orange zest (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Begin by cleaning and rinsing the duck thoroughly. Pat it dry with paper towels.

3. In a small bowl, mix together the five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the duck, both inside and out.

4. In another bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, sherry (or rice wine), garlic, and ginger. Brush this mixture over the duck, ensuring it’s evenly coated.

5. Place the star anise pods and orange zest slices (if using) inside the duck’s cavity. These will infuse flavor as the duck roasts.

6. Use a roasting pan with a rack or a wire rack set inside a baking sheet. Place the duck on the rack, breast-side up.

7. Roast the duck in the preheated oven for about 2 to 2.5 hours. Baste the duck with its own juices or the marinade every 30 minutes. This will help achieve a crispy and flavorful skin.

8. Check the duck’s doneness by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C). This might take a little longer, so be patient.

9. Once the duck is cooked and the skin is crispy, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before carving.

10. Carve the duck into serving pieces, and it’s ready to be enjoyed!
