Israel requests 100,000 Indian workers to fill gap post October 7 attacks: Reports

Israel has reportedly made a formal request to India for the provision of 100,000 workers to replace Palestinian laborers who have been barred from working inside Israel. This development stems from the unsettling events that took place on October 7, resulting in the revocation of work permits for tens of thousands of Palestinian workers within Israel. Journalist Aditya Raj Kaul shared this information on X, previously known as Twitter, revealing Israel’s request for an immediate influx of 100,000 Indian workers to address the labor shortage. In May, Israel and India had already established an agreement allowing 42,000 Indian laborers to work in the Jewish State. However, the recent cancellation of work permits for a significant number of Palestinian workers due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, which began on October 7, prompted Israel to explore the possibility of hiring more workers from India.

The Israeli Builders Association has formally sought the government’s approval to employ up to 100,000 Indian workers. This request comes in response to the loss of work permits by approximately 90,000 Palestinians, particularly in the construction and other vital sectors, as a consequence of the recent conflict. The aim is to address the labor gap created by the absence of Palestinian workers, which has had a notable impact on various industries in Israel.
