According to port authorities, a second Chinese vessel, named Zhen Hua 29, is set to dock at the Vizhinjam international deep-sea facility on November 9. This ship will transport a ship-to-shore crane destined for the Vizhinjam port, along with several yard cranes intended for Mundra port. The vessel is expected to reach the deep-water facility around 8 am on Thursday. Once the ship-to-shore crane is offloaded at Vizhinjam, the vessel will proceed to the Mundra port in Gujarat, as per the sources.

Earlier, the first ship to arrive at the port was the Zhen Hua 15, which carried two yard cranes and a ship-to-shore crane for the deep-water facility. All three cranes have been successfully unloaded and installed, according to the port authorities.

The Vizhinjam port is under construction through a public-private partnership model, with the Adani Group serving as the private partner. Once completed, it is slated to become one of the largest ports globally. However, the project, originally scheduled for commissioning in 2019, experienced delays primarily due to land acquisition issues. Fishermen in the region protested against the port, expressing concerns about its potential adverse effects on their livelihoods, leading to sometimes violent demonstrations.
