In the rural Australian state of Victoria, a car smashed into a tavern, killing five people, two of them children. Two Indian-origin families accounted for all of the victims, per a news.com.au article.
The incident took place on Sunday near Daylesford, northwest of Melbourne, in rural Victoria. According to the police, a white BMW SUV drove up the sidewalk and struck the individuals on the Royal Daylesford hotel’s front lawn.
Shane Patton, the chief police commissioner for Victoria, announced on Monday that four victims died at the site. Vivek Bhatia (38), his son Vihan (11), Pratibha Sharma (44), her daughter Anvi (9) and partner Jatin Chugh (30) are among the victims.
After being transported by air to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital, Anvi died on Sunday night. According to the article, Bhatia’s six-year-old kid Abeer and his 36-year-old wife Ruchi were hospitalised due to significant injuries. Abeer has subsequently stabilised from his original critical state, which included shattered legs and internal traumas.
Several other people, including a baby, were hurt in the collision and were taken to a hospital to receive medical attention. The 66-year-old Mount Macedonian driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Commissioner Patton stated that after the driver’s breath was tested, there was no evidence of alcohol in his system. Additionally, the driver’s blood tests will be examined.
