On Wednesday, Income Tax officers carried out their sixth day of raids on properties linked to Minister of the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department, EV Velu. Velu accused the officials of being dishonest during the operation.
The Minister for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) asserted that Subramani, his personal assistant, was subjected to threats while being questioned in isolation for five days. Furthermore, at the same period, the minister’s driver—whose main responsibility was to operate the minister’s car—was also interrogated in a similar manner.
‘The intense scrutiny extended to my family, causing them significant mental distress. People related with me in Villupuram, Vandavasi, and Coimbatore were also questioned during the raids,’ the minister said.
Minister for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), EV Velu, claimed that prior raids had taken place in 2021 while he was a candidate. He noted that despite the two days of disruption caused by those raids, he was still able to win by a considerable majority.
Minister Velu flatly denied allegations that during the raids, cash worth Rs. 18 crore that was unaccounted for and paperwork proving tax evasion were found. He confirmed that the Income Tax authorities had not found any such funds.
