Gang of train-traveling thieves busted by Adoor Police for Multi-state robbery case

The Adoor Police have successfully dismantled a criminal gang operating across state lines, employing long-distance trains as their mode of transportation to target various business establishments. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul Singh (29) and his brother Om Prakash (51), both hailing from Kuberpur in Agra, and Ankur (29) from Uttar Pradesh.

In a recent incident, the gang executed a break-in at Karikkineth Silk Galleria, a textile shop situated in Adoor Town, making off with cash and other valuable assets totaling Rs 3 lakhs. Their modus operandi involved a daring rooftop entry, accomplished by breaking through the shop’s ceiling during the midnight hours of October 18. To reach the roof, they utilized the building’s pipelines. Subsequently, they drilled a hole in the wall to gain access to the shop. In just a matter of hours, the gang absconded with the cash stored within a vault, as well as some clothing items.

The theft was discovered when the shop resumed business the following morning. Adoor DySP R Jayaraj led a team to the crime scene and initiated legal proceedings. Investigating the matter, the police analyzed CCTV footage from the shop and neighboring areas, concluding that the culprits were not native to South India. Subsequent investigations uncovered their escape to Kollam following the heist.

Extensive searches were conducted across the Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts, though without success. It was established that the thieves had been lodging near the Kollam Railway Station. Their address was incomplete, and their provided phone number was inactive. Police investigations led them to the gang’s origin in the Uttar Pradesh region, revealing their extensive train travel across the country.

Ultimately, the authorities traced the gang to Puliyangudi in Tamil Nadu and made the arrests. The gang’s practice of turning off their phones before reaching their intended locations and maintaining constant movement made it exceedingly challenging for investigators to track their whereabouts.

The gang primarily targeted clothing stores, believing that extra funds would be available in these establishments after the close of evening business hours. They identified these shops using Google and meticulously surveilled the premises before committing thefts.

Initial interrogations of the accused implicated them in similar thefts throughout the country, with police suspecting their involvement in crimes reported within the jurisdiction of police stations in Kunnamkulam (Thrissur), Kottiyam (Kollam), Wayanad, Sultan Bathery, Kozhikode, and Feroke.

Rahul, the ringleader, frequently recruited different individuals for each heist, while his brother, Om Prakash, was responsible for identifying and collecting information about various business establishments under the guise of selling belts.
