Specialized units of the Kerala Police found themselves in a confrontation with Maoists during a late-night encounter. In the midst of the operation, two Maoists were apprehended, but two others managed to evade capture. The exchange of gunfire transpired in a forested region falling within the jurisdiction of the Thalappuzha police station.
This operation was initiated following actionable intelligence received from a Maoist sympathizer who had been detained earlier the same day in the neighboring Kozhikode district. Local residents reported that the gunfight persisted for more than half an hour.
The Maoists, during the operation, initiated gunfire directed at the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Thunderbolt Squad, both elite commando forces within the state police. The police forces promptly retaliated against the armed attackers.
As of now, there is no immediate information regarding casualties resulting from the encounter. The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are diligently assessing the situation. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by the Kerala Police to address security concerns and maintain law and order in the region in the face of potential threats posed by Maoist groups.
