Bomb threat at Kerala secretariat prompts tightened security

On November 9, heightened security measures were implemented at the Kerala state secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram following a bomb threat that originated from a call to the police control room. The call, received by the Kerala Police headquarters at approximately 11 am, asserted that a bomb had been planted within the state Secretariat, a prominent government building in the heart of the city. Subsequent investigations revealed no explosive device inside the secretariat. Nevertheless, police authorities enhanced security and conducted thorough searches for a period.

It was later determined that the bomb threat was a false alarm, and the call was made by an individual with mental health issues. The caller had used a mobile phone, and his location was identified as the Pozhiyoor area of Thiruvananthapuram.

The state Secretariat serves as the hub of political power in Kerala and accommodates the offices of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and various state ministers. Following the threat, bomb squads, canine units, and a sizable police contingent were swiftly deployed for extensive searches both within and around the Secretariat premises. Concurrently, a police team traced the caller’s location to Pozhiyoor, a coastal village in the capital city.
