Bus Seizure Halts Kochi School’s Ootty Tour at Dawn

The Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) dealt a disappointing blow to 200 students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara, as they seized four tourist buses early in the morning. These buses were intended for the students’ Ootty excursion in Tamil Nadu, but MVD officers disrupted their plans, claiming that the trip violated regulations. According to the officers, the buses would only be released once all required documents, including fitness certificates, were presented by the owners.

The MVD’s directive mandates that buses obtain fitness certificates before each tourist trip. However, the bus owners had only applied for the certificates and had yet to present their vehicles to the MVD for inspection. The confiscated buses were registered in Perumbavoor and Chalakudy, as reported by the officers.

Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (Asst. MVIs) N S Binu and P C Sheeba led the seizures, uncovering various issues during checks conducted at the Kakkanad Regional Transport Office (RTO).

This last-minute official action left the students in a difficult situation. Despite school officials’ attempts to secure alternative buses, their efforts proved fruitless, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the excursion plans.
