Negligence on the part of a private hospital in Kottayam’s Kanjirappally has led to a distressing incident, as alleged by the relatives involved. The hospital, situated at the 26th Mile in Kanjirappally, mistakenly handed over the mortal remains of Sosamma Johnny (86), who hailed from Chotti, to the family of another woman. Tragically, the body entrusted to the Chirakadavu Kavala natives had already been cremated by the time they made the grim discovery.
Sosamma’s funeral was scheduled to take place at St. Lupus CSI Church Koottickal at 10 am on Thursday. However, the family’s shock set in when they arrived at the hospital at 8 am to claim the body, only to realize the mix-up. Hospital authorities conducted their own investigation and confirmed that they had indeed given Sosamma’s body to the wrong family, who had already cremated it.
In response, the hospital authorities asserted that the body had been correctly identified by the son before being handed over. Subsequently, in the face of protests by the affected family, Kanjirapally DySP and other officials were called to the scene. Frustrated and aggrieved, the family members have resolved to pursue legal action in light of this grievous incident.
