Hollywood actors and major studios reached a tentative agreement on Wednesday, ending a 118-day strike that had rocked the entertainment industry. The deal, valued at over $1 billion, includes increases in minimum salaries and a new bonus from streaming services. It also addresses concerns about the unauthorized use of AI-generated images, a major worry for performers fearing digital replacements.
“We have arrived at a contract that will enable SAG-AFTRA members from every category to build sustainable careers,” the union said. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher celebrated, saying, “We did it!!!! The Billion+ $ Deal!”
Los Angeles erupted in celebrations as the strike’s resolution means Hollywood can return to full production for the first time since May. Actors rejoiced and chanted, “When we fight, we win!”
The agreement represents a new paradigm for the industry, with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) calling it the “biggest contract-on-contract gains” in the union’s history. Actors, especially those without significant financial buffers, expressed relief.
