ADGP (North Zone) M R Ajith Kumar has reaffirmed Kerala police’s commitment to combating left extremism within the state. He made this declaration during a hastily convened press conference following the apprehension of two Maoist operatives, Chandru (aged 35) from Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, and Unnimaya (aged 31) from Chikmagalur, Karnataka. These individuals were found in the residence of a farmer located on the outskirts of the forest at Chapparam Colony near Periya, Mananthavadi.
During the operation, the ADGP disclosed that the police believed there were originally four individuals in the group, with two women managing to evade capture. The authorities suspect that one of the escaped cadres may be Sundari, a wanted figure.
The operation unfolded when commandos surrounded the farmer’s house, acting on a tip-off. The engagement resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the authorities and the Maoists. Subsequently, law enforcement recovered an AK-47, an INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG), and two homemade firearms from the possession of the Maoist insurgents.
ADGP Ajith Kumar highlighted the state police’s commitment to employing a variety of strategies, adapting them as necessary to address evolving challenges associated with left extremism in the region. He credited the successful outcome of the operation to the collaborative efforts of various state and central government agencies.
