Yamunanagar Tragedy: Six dead after consuming suspected spurious liquor

In Haryana’s Yamunanagar district, a tragic incident has unfolded over the past two days, as six individuals lost their lives in a suspected case of poisoning caused by consumption of adulterated liquor. Local authorities have been actively investigating the matter, but the exact cause of these deaths remains unconfirmed at this stage. The sequence of events began when a hospital reported the death of one person, prompting suspicions of spurious liquor being the cause. Yamunanagar’s Superintendent of Police, Ganga Ram Punia, mentioned that the precise cause of death will only be determined following post-mortem examinations. Nevertheless, the police initiated an investigation based on the initial information and began inquiries in nearby villages.

As the investigation progressed, the police received information from two villages in the district that three more individuals had been cremated on Tuesday and two on Wednesday, all under suspicious circumstances. Consequently, the police are treating these five cases, in addition to the one reported by the hospital, as suspected incidents of spurious liquor poisoning. It’s worth noting that the families of the other five deceased individuals proceeded with the cremations without involving the police, preventing post-mortem examinations. The authorities are diligently working to determine the source of the suspected adulterated liquor, but this remains under investigation. Some individuals have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The victims of this tragedy varied in age and are believed to have consumed the suspected spurious liquor on Tuesday night. While five of them passed away after some time, one individual succumbed to their condition at the hospital on Wednesday. Additionally, two more individuals are reportedly receiving treatment at separate medical facilities. In response to this distressing situation, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by the police to formally document the case and initiate legal proceedings. The investigation continues to unfold as the authorities work to ascertain the exact circumstances and those responsible for this tragic incident.
