A tragic incident occurred at Chennai Port as a worker lost his life, and three others sustained injuries in an unexpected fire accident aboard an oil products tanker. According to the police, the workers were using a gas cutter while conducting repair work near the engine of the vessel, which bore the Indian flag and hailed from Odisha. Regrettably, sparks from the gas cutter fell onto a pipeline, resulting in the fire accident.
The immediate victim of the accident was identified as Sahaya Thangaraj from Tondiarpet, who tragically lost his life. Meanwhile, three other individuals, namely Joshua, Rajesh, and Pushpalingam, were admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital with injuries. The vessel had arrived at Chennai Port on October 30 for repair purposes.
The Harbour police have initiated a case and are actively conducting an investigation into the incident.
