A tragic incident unfolded at the Chennai port as a fire erupted onboard an oil products tanker during repair works, claiming the life of worker Sahaya Thangaraj from Tondiarpet. Additionally, Joshua, Rajesh, and Pushpalingam sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, as reported by a senior police official.
The mishap occurred when the workers utilized a gas cutter for repair work near the vessel’s engine. Describing the sequence of events, the senior police official stated, “The sparks from the gas cutter fell on the pipeline, leading to a fire accident.”
The ill-fated vessel had recently arrived from Odisha at the Chennai Port on October 30 for necessary repairs. In response to the incident, the Harbour police have promptly registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
