On Thursday, the Kerala High Court probed the surge in invalid votes and the decline in NOTA votes during the recount of Kerala Varma College elections. Justice TR Ravi raised questions about the need for a core committee, suggesting the returning officer could have decided on the recount independently. The court sought clarification on the college principal’s signature on documents, considering his absence from the core committee.
The court instructed the returning officer to provide original election documents by 1.45 pm on Friday, with the verdict expected thereafter. This scrutiny follows a plea from KSU’s chairperson candidate, S Sreekuttan, who initially won by a single ballot on November 1 but faced a recount demanded by the rival SFI. The recount saw Anirudhan of SFI winning by 11 votes on November 2. KSU activists allege a coordinated effort to overturn the election results in their favor.
