IndiGo’s IGE collaborates with US-based archer for electric air taxis operation in India

By 2026, InterGlobe Enterprises (IGE), the parent company of IndiGo, intends to launch an all-electric air taxi service in India. In collaboration with California-based Archer Aviation, supported by entities like Boeing, United Airlines, and Stellantis, IGE plans to finance up to 200 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft named “Midnight” for its operations in India. The partnership aims to revolutionize urban mobility by enabling passengers on an InterGlobe-Archer flight to complete the 27-km journey from Connaught Place to Gurugram in about seven minutes, a stark contrast to the 60 to 90 minutes typically taken by car.

Midnight, designed as a pilot plus four-passenger vehicle with a range of approximately 150 km, is set to enter commercial service in the United States by 2025. IndiGo and Archer will collaborate on various aspects, including aircraft operation, infrastructure financing, and personnel training, contingent on regulatory approvals.

An MoU signed by InterGlobe Group MD Rahul Bhatia and Archer CCO Nikhil Goel outlines their proposed partnership, aiming to provide a transformative and cost-competitive electric air taxi service for urban mobility. Beyond urban air taxis, the collaboration plans to explore diverse applications for electric aircraft in India, including cargo, logistics, medical and emergency services, along with private company and charter services. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of offering safe, sustainable, and low-noise electric transportation solutions, addressing the challenges of urban mobility in India.
