With an impressive tenure of 73 years and 60 days as a practicing lawyer with the Palakkad Bar Association, 98-year-old P B Menon has officially entered the Guinness World Records as the world’s longest-serving active lawyer. Surpassing the previous record held by Louis W Triay of Gibraltar, who practiced for 70 years and 311 days, Menon has become a legal stalwart.
Born on October 15, 1926, in Pallasena, Palakkad district, P B Menon attended Municipal High School and Government Victoria College in Palakkad. After earning his degree from Victoria College in 1947, he pursued law at Madras Law College, the sole law college in the Madras Presidency at that time. Enrolled under the Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Menon underwent a two-year apprenticeship under advocate general Kuttikrishna Menon after completing his training at the Madras High Court.
Returning to Palakkad, Menon, in response to his parents’ wishes, shifted his legal practice and worked alongside criminal lawyer K S Ramakrishna Iyer. His remarkable journey in the legal profession has now earned him global recognition in the Guinness World Records for his unparalleled 73-year dedication to the field.
