Pizza Hut teams up with a snake restaurant in Central Hong Kong to introduce snake meat pizza

Imagine a pizza not only satisfying your cravings but also promoting blood circulation and nourishing your body. Sounds perfect, right? Now, what if this unique pizza had an unconventional topping—snakes?

In Hong Kong, Pizza Hut, an American company, has collaborated with Ser Wong Fun, a snake restaurant in Central Hong Kong with roots dating back more than a century to 1895. Together, they have introduced a novel and “buzz-worthy” recipe.

This pizza is a contemporary twist on the traditional snake soup dish, a popular delicacy in Hong Kong, Southern China, and various parts of Southeast Asia like Vietnam and Thailand. Featuring shredded snake meat, black mushrooms, and Chinese dried hams, the pizza incorporates essential ingredients from Hong Kong’s authentic snake stew.

The snake meat used in the pizza, sourced from multiple species including Chinese rat snakes, banded kraits, and white banded snakes, aligns with the general manager of Pizza Hut Hong Kong and Macao’s vision.

Part of a marketing strategy, the pizza is a 9-inch delight with abalone sauce and will be available for purchase until November 22.

Now, the question arises—why include snakes as a pizza topping? While there are numerous enticing pizza toppings available, snakes, considered a culinary delight in many Asian nations, are believed to offer health benefits. According to a saying in the Cantonese dialect, the ideal time to consume snake meat is “when the autumn wind begins to blow,” as during this period, the cold-blooded creatures are well-fed in preparation for hibernation season.

As reported by CNN, Pizza Hut Hong Kong stated, “Paired with cheese and diced chicken, the snake meat becomes richer in taste,” providing a unique and potentially health-boosting pizza experience.
