The National Institute of Technology, Calicut, recently formalized a collaborative partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) and the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR). The primary focus of this MoU is to advance research and education within the agriculture sector.
Prof Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “The MoU between two institutions located close to each other will have many advantages.” He highlighted the significance of interaction, exchange programs, and campus visits in facilitating a deep understanding of real-world problems and finding effective solutions.
The agreement, signed by Prof Prasad Krishna and Dr R Dinesh, Director of ICAR-IISR, emphasizes joint efforts in educational, training, and research activities. The collaboration aims to ensure mutual benefit by facilitating the exchange of knowledge across technological and agricultural domains.
Prof Prasad Krishna further elaborated on the collaboration’s key aspects, stating, “Proper interaction, exchange programs, and campus visits will help both partners understand the real problems and identify solutions.” The MoU underscores the importance of inviting scholars, including faculty, research personnel, and graduate students, for lectures, campus visits, and other academic activities.
Dr R Dinesh emphasized the transformative potential of the collaboration, stating, “The collaboration is expected to help us focus on modernized research activities, setting aside traditional research.” He highlighted the role of collaboration in fostering mentorship in entrepreneurship and research within the spice sector.
The collaborative efforts will extend to the exchange of scholars participating in conferences, symposiums, and seminars. Additionally, there will be a concerted effort to share information in fields of mutual interest, benefitting both academia at NIT Calicut and the research community at ICAR-IISR. The MoU also envisions expert participation and practical training at pre-identified or selected field sites, further enhancing the impact of this strategic partnership.
