The Wayanad Ghat Road, already grappling with congestion and traffic snarls, now faces a new challenge – political rallies. These rallies, organized by various political parties and administrative bodies, aim to address the pressing issue of a smooth road journey to Wayanad.
Covering the 9-km stretch connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad, the Ghat Road proves too narrow for two-lane traffic at certain points. The UDF’s Kalpetta Constituency Committee plans a rally inaugurated by Congress leader K Muraleedharan MP, traversing from Lakkidy to Adivaram. UDF leaders MK Muneer, MK Raghavan, and Kalpetta MLA T Siddique are expected participants.
Simultaneously, the LDF district committee launches the ‘Save the Road, Save the People’ campaign, focusing on alternative routes and Ghat Road development. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is anticipated to engage in a discussion session during his district visit.
Scheduled rallies on November 11 follow routes like Kunkichira-Vilangad Road, Chippilithose-Thalippuzha Road, and Padinjarethara-Poozhithode Road. A seminar by Vythiri village panchayat explores the need for a tunnel road connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad.
The Ghat Road’s traffic halt on October 22 prompted restrictions on heavy transport vehicles during specified hours on public holidays and Mondays, addressing safety concerns.
