In a significant development related to the Kalamassery blasts, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) made crucial findings during an evidence collection session at the Kodakara police station in Thrissur on Saturday. Key to the investigation, four remote control devices utilized by the accused in triggering the explosives were discovered inside Dominic Martin’s scooter at the Kodakara police station.
Dominic Martin, the alleged perpetrator, fled Kochi on his scooter after committing the crime on October 29 and subsequently surrendered to the Kodakara police in Thrissur. As part of the evidence collection process, the SIT brought the accused to the Kodakara police station. The remotes, enclosed in a white plastic bag, were located beneath the scooter’s seat and were disclosed by the accused during interrogation. Consequently, the scooter is being held under tight security at the Kodakara police station.
The tragic blasts, which occurred during a Jehovah’s Witnesses prayer meeting at the Zamra International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery, resulted in four fatalities and over 50 injuries. According to the police, Dominic Martin, an estranged member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, executed the crime independently with the intent of eliminating all members of the group in Kerala.
Dominic Martin articulated his motives in a Facebook video, denouncing the activities of Jehovah’s Witnesses as anti-national and claiming responsibility for the blasts. After posting the video from a lodge at Koratty, Dominic surrendered to the Kodakara police station. The incident prompted a high alert in the state, with suspicions of a potential terror angle.
Despite the deployment of the National Investigation Agency and Anti-terrorism Squad for the probe, Dominic Martin dismissed reports of terror links upon surrendering. While he is identified as the sole accused, the investigative team harbors suspicions of others’ involvement. Given Dominic’s employment in Dubai, the probe has extended to the UAE, with individuals associated with him being closely monitored by the police.
