A significant fire erupted on Sunday evening at a latex factory in Kottayam, allegedly triggered by guest workers’ Diwali firecrackers. The incident transpired at the Coco Latex factory in Moonilavu near Erattupetta, causing substantial damage. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties. Complicating the situation, the nearest Fire & Rescue unit faced delays in reaching the scene due to a deteriorated bridge, unused for nearly two years, leading to the factory. By the time fire tenders arrived from an alternative route, the factory had already been fully engulfed in flames. The fire, first noticed around 7:30 pm, raged on for nearly two hours before being brought under control. The incident underscores the challenges faced in responding to emergencies when critical infrastructure is compromised.
