At least two children and three other individuals were wounded in a shooting incident at a flea market in Pearland, Texas, on Sunday evening. Tragically, one of the injured children later passed away, as reported by the police.
The Pearland Police Department responded to a call about shots fired at Cole’s Flea Market around 5:34 pm local time, where three adults and two children were discovered injured. The victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where one of the juvenile victims succumbed to their injuries.
The shooting unfolded during a dispute between two unrelated individuals inside the market, leading to an exchange of gunfire, according to Chad Rogers, a spokesperson for the Pearland Police Department. The police indicated that one suspect was still at large, but no details about the second shooter were provided, and there was no information available about the victims’ conditions or ages.
Rogers described the incident as an “extremely tragic act” and stated that the police were actively working to identify those responsible. The public was urged to avoid the area as investigators continued their work at the scene on Sunday night.
The shooting in Pearland occurred a day after a Texas police officer was killed in an incident that left the shooter dead and another officer wounded. Officers responded to a home early Saturday following a report of a woman being stabbed. The suspect, armed with a knife, engaged the police in gunfire when they attempted to enter the house, resulting in two officers and the suspect being struck. One officer died, while the second was in stable condition. The suspect was killed at the scene, and two apparent victims inside the residence had fatal injuries, according to Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson.
