A railway incident occurred when a fire broke out in three coaches, including a parcel and sleeper, of Darbhanga Express (02570) while passing through Sarai Bhupat railway station in Etawah district on a Wednesday evening. In the mishap, at least nine passengers, including a minor, sustained burn injuries. The New Delhi – Darbhanga Clone Special Express, packed with passengers heading home for the weekend to attend Chhath Puja, was promptly brought to a halt. Distressed passengers in the affected coach alerted the deputy station superintendent, Nagendra Yadav Singh, who signaled the train to stop. The train staff, upon receiving the alert, applied the emergency brake, and the power supply was cut off.
Upon halting, passengers hurriedly exited the sleeper coach, and the railway authorities called for the fire brigade, which arrived at 5:47 pm to extinguish the flames. Four ambulances reached the scene at 5:55 pm to transport the injured passengers to Etawah District Hospital. According to Etawah Chief Medical Officer Dr. Geetaram, nine passengers were treated for burn injuries in the hospital’s burn ward. The injured individuals, identified as Kanchan, Harendra, Akriti, Manoj Chppal, Raunak Raj, Dayanand, and Sunita Devi, all hail from Darbhanga district in Bihar. The Chief Public Relations Officer of the North Central Railway zone, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhya, assured that there were no casualties and announced that a detailed investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
