Maoists issue threat to collector, warning of Kozhikode blasts similar to Kalamassery

The Collector of Kozhikode, Snehil Kumar, received a threatening message on Wednesday from the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). The message warned of potential explosions in Kozhikode similar to the one in Kalamassery if the government’s actions against the outfit persist. The Collector promptly handed over the threatening letter to the special branch, which, in turn, transferred it to the Nadakkavu police. As of now, no case has been registered regarding this matter.

The timing of the threat is significant, considering the upcoming Nava Kerala Sadas program scheduled in Kozhikode on November 25 under the governance of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government. The threat follows recent incidents involving Maoists in the region, such as a gunfight with Thunderbolts commandos in the forest near Ayyankunnu, Kannur, where two Maoists sustained injuries. Maoist activities have been observed in the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary and its adjacent areas over the past few months, including an incident on October 30 when a three-member Maoist gang fired at forest watchers in the Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary near Iritty. Furthermore, two Maoists were recently apprehended in Wayanad following an exchange of fire with the Thunderbolts.
