Tragic fire in Northern China coal mine claims 25 lives

A devastating fire engulfed a building in northern China’s Shanxi province, resulting in 25 fatalities and numerous individuals being transported to hospitals, as reported by state media. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning at the Yongju Coal Industry Joint Building, owned by the private Yongju coal mine company. The fire erupted at 6:50 a.m. in the four-story structure located in the Lishi District of Lyuliang City, a significant coal-producing hub in China. Authorities from the Shanxi branch of the National Mine Safety Administration and rescue teams are actively engaged in addressing the aftermath of the incident.

The cause of the fire, which primarily affected the building’s second floor, is currently under investigation, according to reports from the Chinese news agency Xinhua. The building is associated with the Yongju coal mine company, a private entity with an annual production capacity of 120 tonnes. This tragic event underscores the inherent risks in the mining industry, prompting heightened attention to safety protocols and emergency response measures in such facilities.
