A 14-year-old girl attending a madrasa in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, tragically took her own life by consuming poison. The incident follows allegations of molestation and threats from a 24-year-old resident of the same village, identified as Talib. The accused had reportedly pressured the girl to provide a favorable statement in his defense in court, leading to considerable distress for the victim. Last year, the girl’s family had filed a molestation complaint against Talib, who was released on bail after spending nearly a month in jail. The accused has been arrested under IPC section 306 (abetment for suicide), and investigations into charges of creating an obscene video and molestation are ongoing. Despite the serious nature of the case, the police have currently filed a case solely under section 306 of the IPC. The victim’s family received a distress call from the girl, revealing the accused’s attempt to blackmail her, ultimately resulting in her tragic decision to end her life.
