As of Friday, government sources have confirmed that the death toll from the explosions at a Jehovah’s Witnesses gathering in Kalamassery, Kerala, in October has now reached six. Praveen, a 24-year-old resident of Malayatoor, passed away at a private hospital on Thursday, where he had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the blasts. His mother, critically injured in the incident, had died on November 11, and his younger sister, Libina, succumbed to injuries on October 30, a day after the explosions occurred.
The medical board overseeing the treatment of blast victims has yet to release a bulletin specifying the number of patients currently under care. The blasts transpired during the final day of a three-day prayer meeting organized by the Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 29. Two women from the gathering lost their lives on the day of the incident, and later, 61-year-old Moly Joy passed away on November 6 at a private hospital.
Following the multiple blasts, which left over 50 people injured, some severely, a man named Dominic Martin, claiming to be an estranged member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, surrendered to the police in Thrissur district. He asserted responsibility for the blasts, leading to his arrest under various sections, including Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and the Explosive Substances Act, along with relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
