A three-member panel has been established by the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to investigate the factors surrounding the bus accident in Doda district, which resulted in the death of one more passenger, bringing the total fatalities to 39. The tragic incident occurred when the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 300-foot gorge on Wednesday. Among the injured passengers, one succumbed to injuries late Wednesday night, with 20 others currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar has announced the formation of the committee, comprised of Dr. Ravi Kumar Bharti, additional district magistrate (ADM) of Doda, a superintending engineer, and an assistant road transport officer. This committee is tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident near Assar in Doda district and is expected to submit a detailed report to the commissioner’s office within a week. Locals have attributed the frequent accidents in the area to the poor conditions of roads in the district, along with issues such as reckless driving and vehicle overloading.
