The ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme in Karnataka, providing Rs 2,000 monthly to women heading families with APL/BPL cards, will extend its benefits to the presiding deity of Mysuru, Goddess Chamundeshwari. Dinesh Gooligowda, Congress MLC and the party’s state media cell vice-president, communicated that he had written to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, urging a monthly payment of Rs 2,000 to the Goddess under the scheme. Responding promptly, Shivakumar instructed Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar to deposit the specified amount into the Chamundeshwari temple account each month, as per Gooligowda’s press release.
Initiated on August 30 in Mysuru, the Gruha Lakshmi scheme’s first installment was deposited at the Goddess Chamundeshwari temple. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar dedicated the scheme to the Goddess, expressing hopes for its success in empowering women from economically weaker sections.
