Polls Open for Madhya Pradesh Elections for 230 Seats

Voting commenced on Friday for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, featuring a competitive race among 2,533 candidates, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, vying for 230 assembly seats. The electoral battle primarily unfolds between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. Throughout the campaign, prominent leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, and Union Minister Rajnath Singh actively engaged in rallies and road shows, emphasizing their party’s agenda and garnering support.

On the other side, Congress leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra, Kamal Nath, and Digvijaya Singh addressed rallies, aiming to mobilize voters in favor of their party’s candidates. Prime Minister Modi, a key figure in the BJP’s strategy, undertook nine visits to the state and delivered 14 public meetings, as the party heavily relies on his appeal to sustain its hold on power in Madhya Pradesh.
