The Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) and the Election Commission have received complaints from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which claims that forged identity cards were used during the state’s Youth Congress election.
On behalf of BJP state president K Surendran, the complaints were turned over by BJP district president VV Rajesh. VV Rajesh said, ‘Youth Congress activists have created false identity cards for their organisational elections. It happened with the knowledge of KC Venugopal and Opposition leader VD Satheeshan.’
The BJP said that the Congress was aiming to practise this across the nation as a trial run before the Lok Sabha elections. According to him, they possess fictitious voter identity cards that are produced by the Centre.
‘How is it possible to forge an identity card? It is like false currency creation. It is against the nation, the people of this country, and Indian democracy. It is an offence against the nation,’ he said.
However, Congress MLA and former Youth Congress President Shafi Parambil denied the accusations. ‘Surendran is looking for a way to pretend that there is active political life. He is an accused in the Hawala case and the election fraud case and he talks about treason and terrorism. He is advising Congress. Whatever Youth Congress made is for the organisational election. That is genuine,’ he said.
