Alok Sharma, a senior IPS officer, was named director of the Special Protection Group (SPG) on Friday. The SPG is responsible for the prime minister’s protection.
Sharma is an extra director general in the SPG and was a member of the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1991.
According to a personnel ministry decision, the Cabinet Appointments Committee has confirmed his appointment as the SPG’s director effective from the day he takes up the position and until future directives.
