Inzamam stepped down after reports revealed a potential conflict involving a co-director in a UK-based company and the managing director of an agency representing prominent Pakistani cricketers.
His resignation occurred during Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup campaign, culminating in an early exit during the group stage where they finished fifth in the standings. The recent resignations of Pakistan’s bowling coach Morne Morkel on Monday and captain Babar Azam on Wednesday added to the team’s upheaval.
The 38-year-old Riaz, boasting a career of 27 Tests and 91 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, retired as a player in August. His appointment as chief selector marks a significant transition in the country’s cricket administration.
