A day after the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress candidate Jyoti Patel said on Saturday that she and her party workers ‘could be killed’ as she accused her BJP opponent’s supporters of gunfire, vehicle damage, and physical assaults on her supporters in Gadhakota, Sagar district.
Patel made serious claims against BJP Minister Gopal Bhargava and his son Abhishek Bhargava during a Facebook live. She added, ‘If I die today, Gopal Bhargava and Abhishek Bhargava will be responsible for my death.’
According to sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, when Jyoti Patel and her followers went to a friend’s residence. After learning of her presence, claimed Bhargava followers arrived, resulting in a confrontation between the two sides.
The clash turned into a brawl, with Congress workers’ vehicles being vandalised. Stones were also thrown at Patel and her supporters, according to sources.
The conflict resulted in injuries, with at least one Congress supporter being brought to Sagar District Hospital for treatment.
Authorities arrived on the scene and deployed a large police force to maintain peace and order in the area after obtaining information. They also limited movement in the area to avoid further disruptions.
Following the incident, both parties’ employees filed complaints with the local police station. SP in addition Lokesh Sinha issued an official statement on the incident, acknowledging that a fight had occurred and that both parties had filed reports. A case has been filed, and additional investigation is continuing.
