Mathura firecracker market blaze: 2 more dead, death toll reaches 8

The tragic blaze at a makeshift firecracker market in Mathura, organized for Diwali, has claimed the lives of two minors, Jatin (15) and Khushi (12), bringing the death toll to eight, as confirmed by local police on Saturday. Jatin passed away during treatment at a private hospital in Agra on Friday night, while Khushi succumbed in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday morning, reported Raya Police Station SHO Ajay Kishore.

Six other individuals, previously injured in the incident, are still receiving treatment in various hospitals in Delhi and nearby districts. The fire, which erupted on November 12 at Gopalbagh in the Raya area, engulfed seven of the 23 firecracker shops and 10 motorcycles in the market. Tragically, Mohan Singh (47) lost his life on Friday, and his son Rajesh (15) passed away on Thursday night. A total of 14 people sustained burn injuries, including a firefighter. District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh has initiated a two-member committee to investigate the incident and has announced a financial aid of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the victims.
