Abdul Kalam Technological University in Kerala extends BTech internship duration

KTU’s recent decision to modify its regulations, enabling BTech students to pursue extended internships ranging from four to six months, aims to enhance the program’s focus on employment and industry alignment, according to a senior university official. This shift is anticipated to provide students with substantial industry exposure, significantly improving their prospects for placement. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to convert their internship reports into final year projects, a notable departure from the current regulations that allow a maximum 56-day internship period for final year BTech students between the seventh and eighth semesters.

Under the amended regulations, students achieving a minimum CGPA of 6.5 can apply for internships following the completion of seventh-semester examinations. The internship options include placements in central or state Public Sector Units, government departments, or the private sector. For private sector internships, students must receive a minimum monthly stipend of Rs 10,000, with the possibility of accepting a lower amount subject to special permission from the university.

Students desiring to truncate their internship duration have the flexibility to do so within two weeks of commencement. In such cases, they can apply for internship cancellation and seek approval to rejoin regular classes. The responsibility of evaluating the reasons behind withdrawing from the internship lies with the colleges, as directed by the university.
