Renowned director Sanjay Gadhvi, celebrated for steering the ‘Dhoom’ franchise, passed away at the age of 57, just days before his birthday. Despite appearing in good health, his daughter Sanjina suspects a possible heart attack as the cause of his sudden demise.
Gadhvi’s cinematic journey began in 2000 with his directorial debut, ‘Tere Liye,’ followed by ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ in 2002, marking his initial collaboration with Yash Raj Films (YRF). The studio expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing that Gadhvi’s on-screen magic would be cherished eternally.
The iconic ‘Dhoom’ series, initiated in 2002, became a milestone in Indian cinema. The second installment, ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006), further solidified its impact by introducing stars like Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The films, revolving around a cat-and-mouse game between motorbike robbers and a Mumbai cop, not only achieved commercial success but also made motorbiking a cultural phenomenon among Indian youth in the early 2000s.
Abhishek Bachchan, who collaborated with Gadhvi on ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2,’ expressed shock and gratitude for the director’s faith in him. Bipasha Basu, another actor from the ‘Dhoom’ series, mourned the loss of a friend “gone too soon.”
The film fraternity, including industry figures like Kunal Kohli, shared condolences on social media, highlighting the impact of Gadhvi’s contributions. Gadhvi’s directorial legacy, influence on Indian cinema, and the cultural phenomenon sparked by the ‘Dhoom’ franchise are remembered as colleagues and fans pay homage to a director who left an indelible mark on Bollywood. #SanjayGadhvi #DhoomDirector #BollywoodLegend #CinematicLegacy #RIP
