India-bound cargo ship hijacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels

Tel Aviv: Yemen’s Houthi rebels seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship. The cargo ship was going to India. The British-owned and Japanese-operated cargo ship  was hijacked  in a crucial Red Sea shipping route on November 19. The Iran backed militia also took  25 crew members  of the ship hostage.

‘The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Huthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very grave incident of global consequence. The ship departed Turkey on its way to India, staffed by civilians of various nationalities, not including Israelis. It is not an Israeli ship,’ the Israeli army said in the statement.

‘This is another Iranian act of terrorism that represents an escalation in Iran’s belligerence against the citizens of the free world, with concomitant international ramifications vis-a-vis the security of global shipping routes,’ said office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Houthis militia also confirmed the incident. They  claimed that they seized an Israeli ship.   According to Houthis the ship from the southern Red Sea has been taken to a Yemeni port. They also warned that they would continue to target ships in international waters that were linked to or owned by Israelis until the end of Israel’s campaign against Gaza’s Hamas rulers.

‘The detention of the Israeli ship is a practical step that proves the seriousness of the Yemeni armed forces in waging the sea battle, regardless of its costs and costs. This is the beginning. All ships belonging to the Israeli enemy or that deal with it will become legitimate targets,’ said Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Houthis’ chief negotiator and spokesman.

As per reports, the Bahamas-flagged Galaxy Leader is a vehicle carrier affiliated with an Israeli billionaire. The  25 crew members had a range of nationalities, including Bulgarian, Filipino, Mexican and Ukrainian.
